It's getting cold here in Ohio. My engine is getting rebuilt and there aren't any indoor karting places in town, so I've been reviewing photos I took from the past year to get my fix. Hope you enjoy a few of my favorites.

Is that paint or does it light up I see in the other picture 97 has a similar thing going on by the doors.

It is back-lit, it's a part of the "leader-light" system. So the numbers are color-coded and lighted so that spectators can more easily tell what position and class the vehicle is in. There's a set of 3 vertical LED lights in front of the number on the vehicles, they indicated position for the top 3 in each class. One light illuminated - leader, two-second place, three - third place, and when none are illuminated it means they're not in the top three. The lighting and numbers are also color coded Red = LMP1, Blue = LMP2, and Green = GT. So applying that to make it a little more clear take a look at this picture:

Thanks to the lighting system we can see that this BMW M3 is a GT class car currently in third position. A pretty simple, and smart solution to a problem that plagues many of us that attend road-races where staying on top of the race can be challenging. Now, keep in mind this was how ALMS did it (and ACO adopted it circa-2007 for the 24 hours of Le Mans), and therefore I'm not certain this will apply to the current United Sports Car Championship (birthed from the merger of ALMS and Grand-Prix), but I'm sure they will use a very similar system.

Cleveland area. It was 55 yesterday but we got several inches of snow here last Monday. Snow before Thanksgiving is no fun.

Huh. I live in Champion, which is about 40 minutes SE of Chardon... we all know about that place. My parents live there. They had a few inches as well, here in Champion, I only had about one inch, and there was really only one day I wasn't driving the Seven.

fair enough. it isn't frozen yet, but my toys are put away and I'm working to get the winter car ready. Enjoy the Seven while you can!

Thanks, now I see. The LMP1? car in front of 96 has one red but its number is blue? or is the 2 blue with a red number so its LMP2 lol, very blurred since its not the focal point but I think that is what I see.

That is the Oak Racing #24 LMP2 car (which actually won the LMP2 class at Le Mans this year), the number is outlined in blue but actually back-lit in a darker pink to coincide with the paint scheme. They won LMP2 overall for the season, the 35 car was first and the 24 car placed second, they're fairly dominant in LMP2.

Glad I could share some knowledge. I go to the 12 hours of Sebring every year, there's nothing quite like watching these cars run at night. Not to mention magic hour, when the sun sets so the track temperature is still quite high but the air temperature drops 15-20 degrees, this is when track records are set, it's awesome to watch.

Thanks! I love geeking out on this stuff. By the way, I'd love to purchase a few of your photos as posters (specifically the two featuring the Aston Martin GT car) to hang up in my new house, is that something you can offer? You can email me at egoods@gmail.com or just reply here.
